Shimla, Jun 13 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) Vice Chancellor L R Verma has ordered an inquiry into the irregularities in the pre-medical test (PMT) after parents and students alleged that the paper had been leaked before hand.

''Former registrar and Controller of Examinations A R Chauhan has been appointed the inquiry officer and has been asked to submit a report within three days,'' HPU registrar V D Sharma said.

Parents of students who had appeared for the state's PMT examination have alleged irregularities in the examination, saying several students of a single area were selected in these examinations, while students who had qualified national examinations failed to pass the examination.

Mr Sharma said that the enquiry officer has been asked to submit his report by 1600 hrs on June 15, adding it would help in arriving at the truth.

Anyone having any information or material about the irregularities in the entrance test may give it to the inquiry officer in any form before June 15, he said, adding the names of the people giving information would be kept secret.

The HPU had earlier decided to file defamation cases against the parents of the students who had alleged irregularities in the PMT examination.
