St Lucia, June 13 (UNI) Rain was threatening to play spoilsport and intermittent showers, which washed off the entire first session, looked to delay the start of fourth day's play of the second Test between India and the West Indies here today.

Covers were on since morning and so was drizzle thus providing some relief to the hosts who were struggling at 43 for 1 after following on.

To make the matter worse for the visitors, the weather forecast was for some more rain in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, umpire Simon Taufell said that the umpires would have the inspection only after the covers are off.

''We are monitoring the conditions here and working closely with the ground staff. After the rain stops and the covers are off, it will take one-one and half hours to make the ground raedy for play.

We can play till 5.30 in the evening so we can wait until around 4 pm today to see if there could be some play,'' said Taufell.

The stadium here has excellent drainage facilities and the ground staff are confident of making the outfield ready, only if rain stops.

However, the umpire also informed that if no play is possible today, then play will start half an hour early at 0930 hrs tomorrow.
