Hyderabad, June 13 (UNI) Giving an indication of the likely political realignment in Andhra Pradesh, the CPI(M) parted ways with the Congress as the Opposition TDP revived its ties with the key left party in the state for the two-phase panchayat polls for which filing of nominations opened today.

Dubbing TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu as ''born opportunist'' Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy told reporters ''it is unfortunate the CPI(M) is going with TDP in local body polls.'' Offering to review his party's views on various economic issues in consultation with the CPI(M), Mr Naidu said his party was ready for ties with the left parties.

However, CPI State Secretary K Narayana, talking to UNI, was quick to reject the offer, saying his party, which had reached a "broad understanding" with the Congress, would go it alone rather than have truck with the TDP if it could not clinch a deal with the ruling party in any of the districts.

Meanwhile, state BJP President N Indirasena Reddy said ''we will fight the elections on our own strength, exposing before the people the duplicity of the Congress-TRS combine.'' The CPI-M, which had joined hands with the TDP to protest the fuel price hike by the UPA Government, had reached a broad understanding with the TDP in two districts.

With a view to improve the party's strength, the party was holding talks with ''like-minded parties'' at the division level for the elections on June 28 and July two to 1,097 ZPTC/MPP and 16,133 MPTC seats, CPI(M) Politburo Member and State Secretary B V Raghavulu told UNI. ''A clear picture will emerge in the next few days,'' he added.
