Condoms worth Rs 7.5 lakh seized from Pune godown

Aurangabad, June 13 (UNI) The city's crime branch police have seized about 250 cartons containing condoms valued at Rs 7.5 lakh manufactured by Hindustan Latex Ltd from a godown owned by a transport company at Pune late last night, police said.

The seizure has been made following a revealation by the accused in the ongoing investigation into the condom scam by the crime branch here.

The latest seizure of condoms assumes signifinance as it was made after the arrest of three prime accused in the condom scan here on June 8, police sources said.

Police said the a crime branch team seized the stock late last night from the transport company's godown at Pune and the same was brought here today.

Police sources said the accused, who have been involved in illegal re-packaging of condoms meant for public distribution, under the brand of their company Devgiri Latex Private Ltd, had allegedly hidden the stock in the godown.

The three main accused have been in police custody till June 16, as per the orders of a local court here on June 9.

The trio -- Shirish Boralkar (43), the main accused in the condom scam, Hemant Mirkhelkar (42) and Bandu Kulkarni (32) -- were arrested by the police, soon after they surrendered before the court here on June 8.

They were wanted by the police since March 28, after the scam was exposed, police said.

The accused have been charged under the re-selling of the condoms meant for public distribution by re-packaging the same under the brand of Devgiri Latex Private Ltd, which the trio owned.
