Surat, June 13 (UNI) A group of the Sindhi Shia community members, including women, today held a demonstration in front of the headquarters of Police Commissioner and submitted a memorandum asking for re-investigation into the death of a newly-wed woman, which, they alleged was a murder.

Sabha Hat Fatima (19) was found dead in her in-laws house on May 31 and Chowk Bazaar police registered the case under Indian Penal Code section 306 (abetment of suicide), according to Sindhi Shia Jamaat in Salabatpura.

The Jamaat sources said that after the post-mortem, the police said the case was of suicide and they have arrested the victim's husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law in connection with the case.

But the incident occurred just 2 months after her marriage and hence it could not be a suicide, alleged the sources.

''There were lot of injuries on her body and we suspect that it was not a suicide. We think that the post-mortem report was also manipulated,'' alleged the brother of the victim, Abubakr Zubairbhai yesterday .

When contacted, Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha said that the police investigation was going on and he will consider the new allegations raised by the community members.

However, Mr Sinha maintained that it was a panel of three doctors which conducted the post-mortem and according to their finding it was a suicide.

He said, ''The police can only investigate on the basis of that.

And we have registered a case under IPC 306 and two persons are under remand. Anyway I told them that their statements will be considered for the investigation. I think that they are satisfied,'' Mr Sinha said.

The agitators submitted a memorandum to the district collector also.
