Attempt to attack Stalin foiled in Madurai
Chennai, June 13 (UNI) An alleged attempt to attack Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin by a knife-wielding person, created a flutter at the Madurai Railway Station this morning.
Police and DMK sources said here that the miscreant pulled Mr Stalin by his shirt, but an alert Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) man, who was accompanying the Minister, pushed him aside, foiling the alleged attack bid.
When the CISF man tried to overpower him, the middle-aged miscreant dropped the knife and managed to escape amid the jostling crowd at the railway station.
DMK sources said hundreds of partymen have gathered at the Madurai station to receive Mr Stalin when the unidentified miscreant intruded into the crowd and pulled his shirt from the backside.
Even as partymen pushed him aside thinking that he was coming to shake hands with the Minister, the CISF man tried to overpower him, when he found a knife in his possession.
As the knife fell down, the miscreant, taking advantage of the jostling crowd, slipped out and managed to escape.
The motive behind the suspected attempt to attack on Mr Stalin, who is also the Deputy General Secretary of the DMK, was not immediately known.
Party sources said Mr Stalin came to know of the incident only after the CISF securityman informed him.
Mr Stalin arrived by Pandian Express from Chennai to chair a review meeting at the temple town.
