Ascertain Jesus' Kashmir link: Swamy
New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy has urged the government to appoint an Expert Commission to determine if Jesus Christ received his spiritual education in India and if he was a Mahayana Buddhist Monk.
Dr Swamy in a statement said, numerous Buddhist scriptures in Hemis Gompa monastry near Leh and Ladakh which vividly describe the presence of Jesus Christ in Kashmir. Even the officials of Kashmir Kings Shalivahana and Kanishka had chronicled the event.
Dr Swamy demanded that the Commission should hold open hearings if after crucifixion Jesus lived till the age of 80 and was buried in Khaniyar area in Srinagar where his mortal remains are believed to be interred in a grave.
He said the Bible does not accurately reflect the buddhist teachings of Jesus Christ but going by the widely held view in Kashmir that he was a Mahayana Buddhist, it would be obvious that present day Christianity does not accurately reflect Christ's teachings.
The discovery about Christ turning to Buddhism was documented by a Russian scholar Nicolar Notoski in 1887 followed by Dr Holger Kersten, a German theologian establishing Notoski's research in 1986.
Recently noted scholar Suzanna Olsson wrote a book titled 'Jesus, Last King of Kashmir'.
With the recent revelation of Dead Sea Scrolls and National Geographic findings on Judas, time has come to question the true identity of Jesus Christ, Dr Swamy said.
