40 dead, 22 injured in truck accident

Dehradun, Jun 13 (UNI) At least 40 persons were killed and more than 22 injured when a truck carrying marriage party fell into a 200-metre-deep gorge in Almorah district today.

According to the Almorah SDM Ruchi Tiwari, the truck was heading to Raticham from Basoda when it fell into the gorge at Bhikiyasen, instantly killing at least 40 passengers on the spot.

All the injured had been admitted to different hospitals at Bhikiyasen.

Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari has announced Rs 1 lakh for the kin of deceased passengers, Rs 25,000 for the seriously injured and Rs 10,000 for the other injured.
