24-hour Chaka bandh hits Asom
Guwahati, Jun 13 (UNI) The Asom Unit of All India Road Transport Workers Federation sponsored 24-hour Chaka Bandh in protest against the hike in petrol and diesel prices badly hit road transport in the city today.
All private buses were off the roads affecting life throughout the state.
Attendance in offices, educational institutions and other commercial places was thin following the Chaka bandh in the state.
However, no untoward incident was reported till now.
Left parties including the CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML), RSP, SP and ASDC(U) have also joined the protest against the rise of prices of petrol and diesel. All these parties have brought out protest rallies, dharnas and submitted memorandums to different Deputy Commissioners protesting the Centre's decision to raise the prices of petrol and diesel.
