Trinamool Cong members stage walkout on opening session
Kolkata, Jun 12 (UNI) Amid an uproarious scene Trinamool Congress members staged a walkout from the West Bengal Assembly during the Governor's address in the opening session today.
As soon as Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi started addressing the newly constituted house, the AITC members started shouting slogans and trooped into the well demanding that the Governor go back.
They also held aloft posters demanding that the state government reduce sales tax and cess on petrol to neutralise the effect of the oil price hike.
After about five minutes of noisy scenes they left the house for the day.
Despite the din, Mr Gandhi remained unfazed and went on reading out the speech. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and most of his cabinet colleagues were present during the Governor's address.
Early in the morning the Trinamool Congress boycotted the election of the speaker alleging that the party was being 'deliberately' denied the status of opposition.
