Sensex declines further by 227 pts

Mumbai June 12 (UNI) Sensex further declined in the intra-day trade by 227 points at 9582 at 1400 hrs after opening in the green by 48 points from the previous close of 9810.48.

Experts feel, the metal scrips on the index surged after a latest economic data showed industrial production has risen by 9.5 per cent in April 2006.

Also, manufacturing production, which represents more than 75 per cent of industrial output, rose 10.4 per cent in April 2006 from last year. Consumer durables output was up 10.6 per cent from last year, while production of capital goods, a key barometer of industrial activity, rose 24.9 per cent in April 2006 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

All the sectoral indices are trading in red.

Major scrips which have gained on the index are Dr Reddys's Lab up by 3.70 per cent and Infosys up by 0.20 per cent.

Besides the losers were - HDFC down by 4.96 per cent, Grasim Industries down by 4.82 per cent, Tata Steel down by 4.77 per cent, RIL down by 4.53 per cent, ICICI down by 3.60 per cent, HLL down by 3.54 per cent, ITC down 2.87 per cent, Tata Motors 2.58 per cent, Bharti Tele down 2.51 per cent, and ACC down by 2.36 per cent.
