Sensex busts all hopes; down by 334 pts

Mumbai, Jun 12 (UNI) After making futile attempts at recovery, markets finally ended the day in red by 334 points at 9476.15 on heavy selling, compared to the previous close of 9810.46 on Friday.

Earlier, the sensex opened in the green, but could not sustain the positivity on account of strong volatility, witnessing an intra-day swing of 421 points.

During the day the metal scrips had surged after the industrial report for the month of April put the growth at 9.5 per cent compared to 8.1 per cent last year.

However, the scrips declined later during the day and closed down by 4.84 per cent at 7130.05 points.

All other indices also closed the day in red by 1.5 to 4.5 per cent.

Major gainer on the index was Dr Reddy's Lab up by 0.76 per cent at Rs 1275.45.

Besides the losers on the index were - Bajaj Auto, BHEL, HDFC, Tata Steel, Reliance Communication Ventures, Grasim industries, Hero Honda, HLL, ACC, and ICICI.
