Agartala, June 12 : Ruling CPI(M)'s Motor Shramik Union has called a dawn-to-dusk strike tomorrow in Tripura to protest the recent price hike in petroleum products.

The Tripura Motor Shramik Union and Tripura Autorickshaw Workers Union leaders said here today that a 12-hour strike by the private transporters will be observed in the state tomorrow to protest the UPA government's recent price hike in petrol and diesel. The UPA government had raised the prices of the petroleum products five times since it came to power, they added.

The left parties, including the CPI(M), who are giving outside support to the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, had however given some alternative proposals for not raising the prices of petrol and diesel. But the Centre had not paid any heed to their proposals, the leaders alleged.

They said following the rise in prices of petrol and diesel, the common people would be the most affected.

However, all private vehicles engaged in essential services like police, milk supply and ambulance have been kept out of the purview of the strike.
