Out on bail, man sets himself ablaze
Chennai, Jun 12 (UNI) An 18-year-old habitual offender was admitted to the Government Kilpauk medical college hospital here today with burns, after he attempted self-immolation in front of a police station in the city.
Police said one Pandiyan of Vyasarpadi who came out on conditional bail recently had to appear and sign everyday at Vyasarpadi police station.
However, he did not turn up for the last two days, and came to the police station today.
The station authorities asked the reason for his absence and warned him of arrest if he did not comply with the court orders.
On hearing this, Pandiyan went to his house, came back with a bottle of petrol, poured it on himself and set himself ablaze.
The locals doused the flames and rushed him to the hospital.
His condition was said to be critical, police added.
