Mobile subscribers cross 100 million
New Delhi, June 12 (UNI) The upward trend in number of new telecom subscribers continued in the new financial year with a net addition of about 4.36 million phones with an average daily addition of 140,000 lines during May.
As a result, the total number of telephones in the country crossed 150.55 million as against a total of 146.19 million as on April 30, marking a growth of 2.9 per cent.
The growth in May 2006 was 48 per cent over that of May last year. Almost the entire growth registered was in the mobile segment with GSM contributing 3.16 million and CDMA contributing 1.1 million.
The additions in the fixed line segment during the month were about 0.10 million.
Overall teledensity improved further to 13.46 per cent in May from 13.09 per cent in April and from 9.17 per cent as on May 31 last year.
