Aizawl, Jun 12 (UNI) Congress president and opposition leader Lalthanhawla today criticised the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) government and the breakaway Mizoram Congress Party (MCP) for alleged maligning his image.

Mr Lalthanhawla dismissed the MCP's claims that he has lost his AICC membership. He said their campaing was an act of 'political desperation'.

''The AICC has not yet notified me regarding my dismissal. It is a baseless accusation'', the leader added.

He also came down heavily on chief minister Zoramthanga and said the state government has 'robbed and starved the poor and squandered Central funds meant for the needy people of the state'.

'' The Centre has implemented so many programmes for the uplift of rural economy, all they have to do is to implement them, but they are doing nothing'', he alleged.

Mr Lalthanhawla also accused the MNF for alleged harbouring various underground outfits in the region.

Dismissing the reports about him being tipped for the Governor's post he said ''I would be staying here, the state Congress needs me''.
