Kyndiah briefs Sonia on pol development in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jun 12 (UNI) Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Development of North Eastern Region P R Kyndiah today met AICC president Sonia Gandhi and discussed with her the political crisis in the Congress-Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.

Mr Kyndiah went to meet Ms Gandhi after 20 rebel Congress MLAs gave her a letter saying they did not repose faith in the leadership of Chief Minister D D Lapang.

The dissisdent MLAs on June 6 had faxed to the AICC president urging her to replace Mr Lapang with Meghalaya Minister for Parliamentary Affairs J D Rymbai.

Mr Kyndiah who had a detailed discusssion with Ms Gandhi this morning on the latest political developments emphasised the need to maintain unity of the party in the state at all cost.

With the strength of 29 MLAs, Mr Kyndiah told Ms Gandhi that the the coalition government headed by the Congress party could bring speedy development and progress in the state.

''What happened in Meghalaya is serious enough but not critical, as all the Congress MLAs are committed to strengthening the party'', Kyndiah informed the AICC president.
