IUML stakes claim for RS seat

Kozhikode, Jun 12 (UNI) Apart from the Congress and the Kerala Congress (M), the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has also staked its claim for one of the three Rajya Sabha seats for which election is slated to be held on June 26.

Talking to newspersons after a day-long party office-bearers meeting, IUML state general secretary and Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said the matter would be taken up with the United Democratic Front (UDF) at an appropriate time.

Reminded of the claims of other parties, he said the UDF would take a unanimous decision after detailed deliberations soon.

Elections to the three seats from the state are to be held following expiry of terms of IUML leader M P Abdussamad Samadani and Congress leader P J Kurien and the resignation of RSP leader N K Premachandran after his election to the State Assembly.
