Kozhikode, June 12 : The motor transport workers wing of the Kerala State Swathanthra Thozhilali Union (STU) would participate in the all India strike called by Motors Workers Joint Action Committee tomorrow against the recent petrol price hike in the country.

However, the STU would not join the general strike called by the Left-led trade unions, STU president Cherkalam Abdulla told reporters here today.

Stating that the steep hike in the prices of petrol and diesel Rs 4 and Rs 2 respectively was not justifiable, he called upon the Centre to consider an immediate rollback.

He also urged the Kerala government to ease people's burden by slashing Sales Tax on petroleum products as in the case of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Goa also announced their decision to cut ST on fuel products, he added.
