Itanagar bandh to protest petro hike peaceful
Itanagar, June 12 (UNI) The 12-hour Itanagar bandh, which began here early today in protest against the hike in fuel prices, ended peacefully this evening.
While state government offices functioned normally, Central government offices were closed in the bandh called by the BJP, official sources said.
Chief Minister Gegong Apang, his Cabinet colleagues, senior bureaucrats attended their offices as usual, state chief secretary Tabom Bam told UNI.
However, most of the Central government organisations, banks, financial institutions, post offices remained closed. Business establishments downed their shutters and vehicular traffic was off the roads.
Though there was no untoward incident, two detained activists were later released, superintendent of police Chukhu Appa said.
