Chennai, June 12: The first phase of the much-awaited IT corridor between Madhya Kailash and Siruseri will be ready by August, Union Communications and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran said today.

Talking to newspersons after inaugurating Telcordia Research and Development Centre here, Mr Maran said work on the first phase between Madhya Kailash and Tidel Park was nearing completion and it would be opened for traffic in August.

The project, announced with an intention to create world-class IT Corridor on the Old Mahabalipuram Road where the IT companies were located, suffered a delay because of bad planning by the previous AIADMK government, he alleged.

After the DMK came to power last month, he reviewed the project by travelling upto Siruseri and worked out an ambitious plan after detailed discussions with the officials to complete work at the earliest.

Mr Maran, who had suggested extending the corridor to Mahabalipuram, said the first priority was to complete the project upto Siruseri where the IT Park was located.

The work upto Siruseri has itself been divided into three phases for the purpose of speeding up the construction, he added.

The first phase between Madhya Kailash and Tidel Park will be thrown open for traffic now while the entire project will be completed by early next year, the Minister said.

Pointing out to the nightmarish experience at Madhya Kailash Junction, the starting point of the IT corridor, the Union Minister suggested an elevated highway or grade separator to ease the traffic congestion.
