Industrial output up 9.5 pct in April

New Delhi, June 12 (UNI) Strong manufacturing, electricity and mining output data have resulted in rise in the country's industrial output in April 2006 to 9.5 per cent over April 2005, with manufacturing sector showing a 10.4 per cent growth, official figures released here today show.

Manufacturing grew by 10.4 per cent in the first month of the new fiscal, up from 8.9 per cent recorded in March 2006, according to the figures released by Central Statistical Organisation.

On a year-on-year basis, consumer goods showed a decline at 8.7 per cent as compared to 13.5 per cent in April 2005.

The mining sector, however, recorded a growth of 4.3 per cent during April compared to 2.8 per cent in April 2005, while the electricity sector rose by 5.6 per cent compared to 3.1 per cent in the corresponding month of last year.

Capital goods output was up 24.9 per cent in April against 14.6 per cent in the corresponding year-ago period, while intermediate goods recorded a growth of 5.3 per cent in April from 2.5 per cent in same month of the previous financial year.
