Haryana to strength power transmission system

Chandigarh, June 12 (UNI) The Haryana Power Utilities have earmarked a sum of Rs 2924 crore for the current financial year to add generating capacity and strengthen the transmission and distribution system in the state, Lt Gen (retd) O S Lohchab, Chairman, Power Utilities said today.

While addressing a public meeting at Dulhere village he said that a 1000 MW thermal power station would be set-up at Mattan Hail for which sufficient quantity of land and water was available. The government would ensure rail link for the timely completion of this project.

He said that a sum of about Rs 792 crore had been spent to strengthen the power distribution system during the last financial year. The budget provision for this purpose for the current year was almost four times.

He said that Power Utilities in addition to arranging power through its own generating stations, was also ensuring that the present power requirements of electricity was also met through short term power purchases. About eight hours of power was being diverted to the agriculture sector, he added.

On an average, 16 to 22 hours of power had been supplied to rural and urban domestic and non-domestic consumers daily during the last one month, he added.

Lt Gen Lohchab further stated that all the households in the villages would be given meters by holding open darbars for proper energy audit. Four to five villages would be selected in each operation division every month for 'on the spot' release of new domestic and non domestic connections in rural areas,he added.
