Goa govt slashes fuel prices besides VAT rates
Panaji, June 12 (UNI) The Goa government today slashed petrol and diesel prices, including the value added tax (VAT) on the fuel.
This will result in the loss of Rs 25.74 crore to the state exchequer, which will be neutralised by improved turnover and better recovery, said Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane here today.
With the cut in prices, the unleaded petrol will be cheaper by Rs 1.19, power petrol by Rs 1.23 and diesel by 50 paise per litre, he said.
Mr Rane announced this after consultation with financial secretary and others, and said the government has also decided to reduce VAT rates on petrol by 3 per cent and diesel by 2 per cent as against the existing 25 and 22 per cent respectively.
With this, the unleaded petrol would cost Rs 48.42, the power petrol Rs 49.67 and diesel Rs 35.34 with immediate effect.
Recently, the Centre had hiked the fuel prices (petrol by Rs 4 and diesel by Rs 2 per litre) and refused to roll back the same despite the public outcry.
