Four killed, 16 injured in accident

Kancheepuram, Jun 12 (UNI) Four people, including the conductor and a 12-year-old girl, were killed and 16 others injured when a state transport bus, in which they were travelling, collided with a stationary truck near Melmaruvathur in Kancheepuram district today.

Police said the bus was proceeding to Chennai from Pudukottai when the mishap occured at Sothupattu near the Pilgrim town on the GST road at about 0430 hours.

All the four died on the spot and they were identified as Manivanna (40), the conductor of the bus, belonging to Tiruchirapalli, Lavanya (12), Dhanalakshmi (35) and Mayilagi (55).

The injured were admitted to Chengalpattu government hospital, police said. Following the accident, traffic on the GST road was disrupted for about an hour.
