Dr Chauhan gets interim bail

Chandigarh, Jun 12 (UNI) Former Punjab finance minister and pro-Khalistan leader Dr Jagjit Singh Chauhan was today granted interim anticipatory bail till further orders by the Punjab and Haryana High Court here.

Justice K S Grewal while granting the bail to Dr Chauhan, also issued notices to the Punjab government and other respondents after the preliminary hearing on the petition.

He has sought the anticipatory bail in connection with a case registered against him on March 9 this year for delivering an allegedly seditious speech at Guru Nanak College, Nakodar.

A case under sections 124-A,153-A and 120-B IPC was registered against him at the police station, Nakodar district Jalandhar in the wake of his speech which was considered to be anti-national in tone and tenor.
