New Delhi, Jun 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said though it did not approve of the Samajwadi Party's attacks on the IT Department offices in Allahabad in protest against issuance of notices to superstar Amitabh Bachchan, the conduct of the UPA government towards the Bachchan family ''certainly smacked of vengeance''.

Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said he failed to understand why the Bachchan family was being ''targetted''. ''Is it because they have fallen from grace as far as the first family of the Congress is concerned? '' he asked.

Mr Naidu said if the government can go as far back as 1959 in the Office Of Profit Bill, making exemptions for its leaders, it could have considered the same on the issue of Jaya Bachchan's disqualification from the Rajya Sabha.
