BRU displaced People's Forum President kidnapped
Agartala, Jun 12 (UNI) Mizo Bru Displaced People's Forum (MBDPF) President Elvis Charki was kidnapped by a group of Mizoram based ultras --Bru Liberation Front of Mizoram (BLFM)-- last week from North Tripura district, delayed police reports here today said.
Mr Charki (28) was abducted from Santipur under Kanchanpur sub-division on way to Reang tribal camps. Mr Charki is the leader of more than 33,000 Reang population, who had left their homes in Mizoram during 1998 and took shelter in Tripura following ethnic violence in their home state.
The MBDPF president had already deserted refugee camp fearing attack on him by extremists and started residing in Kanchanpur sadar since the last few weeks.
The MBDPF secretary lodged a complaint with the police. Massive search operation was on.
The displaced people were trying to draw the attention of the Central and the State governments of both Tripura and Mizoram to press for their demands under the leadership of Charki.
Charki's kidnapping is a big blow to the peace process, MBDPF sources claimed.
