Bihar committed to Panchayati Raj: Nitish
New Delhi, Jun 12 (UNI) Observing that Bihar is totally committed to the concept of Panchayati Raj as mandated by the Constitution, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today claimed that his state has become the first in the country to give 50 per cent reservation to women.
Bihar has recently replaced the old Bihar Panchayat Act 1993 with the Bihar Panchayat Raj Act 2006, Mr Kumar said addressing the first meeting of the Empowered Sub-Committee of the National Development Council on Panchayati Raj here.
Speaking on the occasion, Gujarat Agriculture Minister Bhupendra Singh said Gujarat has set an example in strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions by starting a three-tier system for development of villages. He apprised Union Minister for Panchayati Raj of the various schemes launched in his state to empower PRIs.
