Asom on boil; one killed in two separate blasts

Guwahati, Jun 12 (UNI) At least one person was killed and 11 others were injured as two powerful bombs went off this afternoon in two extreme corners of Asom.

Official sources here said the first bomb exploded at Digboi, the easternmost town of Asom and the next one exploded at Goalpara, the westernmost town of the state.

The first explosion took place at the daily market in the oil township of Digboi. The bomb went off at 1445 hours when the crowd rush was at its peak in which eleven people were injured.

One of the injured later succumbed to wounds.

However, details were awaited for the second blast.

The latest series of violence had actually baffled the state government. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was today returning to the state after a week-long trip abroad.

He was supposed to meet Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil this afternoon in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, security around the oil installations and railway tracks had been further intensified as the ULFA continued targeting oil installations and railway property.
