400 timber-based industries to be closed in Haryana
Jagadhri, Jun 12 (UNI) The Haryana administration today ordered the closure of about 400 timber-related industries in Yamunanagar district by June 14.
The decision was taken by the Haryana Forest Department following a Supreme Court directive that no timber-based industry involving felling of trees or making plywood, which opened after October 30, 2002, be allowed to function in view of the depleting forest wealth.
A Central Environment Committee was constituted following this order of the apex court. The committee had invited objections from industries in this regard and the Forest Department passed the closure orders today after going through the these objections.
