Vegetable seeds distributed among farmers in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 11 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has distributed 9,800 kg of potato, 15,000 kg of paddy, 600 kg of maize and 5 kg of high-yielding vegetable seeds among farmers of Sopore area in Baramulla district during the current Kharief season.

Under the Seed Village Programme, 384 kg of paddy and 1000 kg of maize seeds were provided free of cost to the farmers of Yambarzalwari and other areas, an official spokesman said today.

He said five vegetable plots were laid in the Sopore sub-division.

Under the technology Mission second aimed at boosting vegetable production, the spokesman said as many as 151 pump sets, 10 foot pumps, 15 poly films and 5 knap sacs were given to farmers on subsidised rates.

Besides Rs 1.40 lakh were incurred under the water shed development programme, he added.

The spokesman said 2000 willow and other saplings were planted in the area to control soil erosion. Tanks were also dug for rain water harvesting, he added.
