UP gang busted; diamond heist foiled

Surat, June 11 (UNI) Detection unit of Crime Branch here arrested a seven-members of a gang, including a woman, who were planning to loot diamond units in the city.

Police said they raided the house of one Rajeshwari Devi, from Sahadabad in Uttar Pradesh and arrested the accused and seized Rs 6,000, four country made revolvers, 13 live cartridges, a knife and a map of Varachcha area where city's diamond units are located.

According to the police, Rajeshwari Devi is the leader of the gang and she was arrested in 2003 in connection with a Rs one crore diamond loot case.

Acting on a tip-off, the police other arrested accused along with Devi who had been identified as Omprakash Singh Jat, Mahavirsingh Mahendrasingh Jat, Veerpalsingh Jat, Govindsingh Shivramsingh Jat, Sitaram Deniram Jat and Paresh Kanani, DCB officials said.
