RPI to contest local body polls
Hyderabad, Jun 11 (UNI) The Republican Party of India (RPI)will field candidates for the forthcoming MPTC and ZPTC elections in the state.
RPI State President M Venugopal and General Secretary D B Log told newsmen here today the party had decided to contest a majority of the seats and will make seat adjustments with like-minded parties.
They wanted the government to ensure free and fair elections.
The RPI would work for the welfare of the downtrodden and act as a check on the ruling and opposition parties.
The leaders said the government should vest developmental powers in the local bodies after the elections to help them provide facilities like education, health and drinking water to the people.
Distribution of surplus land to the landless poor and declaration of agriculture sector as industry were some of the other demands.
