Ahmedabad, June 11: Leader of the Opposition in State Assembly Arjun Modhvadia today strongly criticised the BJP-ruled Gujarat Government (GoG) for its 'failure' to prepare detailed project for developing Mahatma Gandhi's 386-km Dandi March as a National Highway (NH 228) at a cost of Rs 344-crore.

While the announcement was made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the 75th anniversary of the famous Dandi Yatra on April 26, 2005, Mr Modhvadia wondered as to why GoG has sought another three month's time at the Centre's Review Meeting on June 6 to complete the detailed report.

The project includes developing sites en route, where the Mahatma halted for the night stay, besides the highway. In the meantime, he said, the Centre has also released the first tranche of Rs 50 lakh from cropus fund of Rs 10 crore for Sabarmati Ashram.

The Congress leader ridiculed the Gujarat Government's spokesman I K Jadeja's yesterday's statement staking claim for bagging the presitigeous project, befitting the Mahatma's foot march from Sabarmati on March 12, 1930, culminating at Dandi village near Valsad in south Gujarat for breaking the salt law with his followers on April 3.
