'Talks must b/w UAE and India over labour issues'
Dubai, June 11: Human rights and environmental activist Medha Patkar has sought a dialogue between the UAE authorities and the Indian diplomatic mission to address issues facing Indian workers in the country.
''The problems of the expatriates and their labour rights need urgent attention and intervention by the Indian government, as much as by the UAE rulers,'' she told newspersons here.
While there had been some progress recently on the issues of minimum wages, housing and other amenities provided by employers, there was a further need to make the corporates behave in a just and legal manner, she said.
Ms Patkar, who attended the silver jubilee celebrations of the Dubai Art Lovers' Association (DALA) late on Friday, said she was very pleased to be here in the land of gold and pearls.
