Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 11 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the "so-called factionalism" within the CPI(M) will not affect the functioning of his government.

''There existed an argument that there is factionalism within the Kerala unit of the CPI(M). But we are trying to sort out things through talks,'' Mr Achuthanandan, who returned here after attending the party's Central committee meeting in Hyderabad, told newspersons.

The infighting should not affect the smooth functioning of the government, he added.

He was reacting to questions relating to reports that the functioning of the government was affected due to the factionalism within the party between loyalists of Mr Achuthanandan and party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.
