Ranchi, June 11 (UNI) The Congress today asked the Arjun Munda-led NDA government in Jharkhand to follow Congress-ruled states like Maharashtra and Delhi in reducing sales tax to give relief to the people of state from the central hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.

General Secretary of the state Congress Shailesh Sinha, in a statement here, said looking at the heavy increase in the price of crude oil in the international market and subsequent pressure on the National Oil Companies, the central government's decision to increase the prices of petrol and diesel was relevant. However, the state governments have the option of decreasing the sales tax to give some relief to the people.

Mr Sinha said the announcement of Congress governments in Maharashtra and Delhi to reduce sales tax was a welcome step and Jharkhand should also follow suit.
