Centre to set up Citizen Service Centres

Aizawl, June 11 (UNI) As a part of their ongoing e-governance programme, the Information Technology Ministry has planned to set up Citizen Service Centre (CSC) in more than one lakh villages across the country.

Talking to UNI here, S R Das, senior scientist, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said, ''Out of about six lakh villages in our country, it has been proposed that one lakh villages would soon have CSC, which would provide the people with all the information regarding government services.'' ILFS had been entrusted to be our national level consultant for the CSC project, which would provide fund to this scheme, he said, adding each CSC would be connected to all the government departments, which would give online data of all the services rendered by the respective state government.

''The Ministry has also decided to encourage private participation to set up these CSC in the selected villages,'' he said adding respective state government would appoint the private agencies or individuals, who will maintain the CSC in their respective areas.

Mr Das, who was here on a two-day visit, to monitor the e-governance programme undertaken by the Mizoram government, said currently the blueprint on CSC was ready for the formal Cabinet approval.

He also said out of the 18 states, which had proposed to take up the e-governance programme in the country, states like Punjab, Kerala and Gujarat had been already actively taking part in the projects.

On the North East perspective, Mr Das said so far Asom, Sikkim, Tripura and Mizoram were showing keen interest in implementing e-governance projects in their respective states.
