Azharuddin XI lift Super Heroes Trophy-2006

Vijayawada, Jun 11 (UNI) Azharuddin XI lifted the Super Heroes Trophy-2006 defeating actor Srikanth XI by two runs in a limited overs cricket match at Indira Gandhi Municial Stadium here to raise funds for rural sports deveopment creating awareness on HIV/AIDS.

Telugu actor Srikanth and captain of Srikanth XI won the toss and elected to field first.

The first blow for the Azharuddin XI was when they lost their opening batsman in the 11th over, after they made 61 runs from the first ten overs. The former Indian skipper, with a score of 72, including four fours and five sixes from 54 balls, steadied the innings later.

C V Anand, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eluru Range was the other successful batsman, who extended a helping hand to his captain with a score of 69 runs. For Srikanth XI, Tarun was the most successful bowler bagging three wickets. Azharuddin XI reached a score of 218 runs for the loss of six wickets.

In reply, Srikanth XI scored 216 losing eight wickets.

Vanka Pratap scored 62 runs that included three sixes. Later, he fell to C V Anand's bowling in 29th over. With the fall of this wicket, the match turned in favour of Azharuddin's XI.

Azharuddin was adjudged Man of the match, Vanka Pratap the best batsman, Tarun the best bowler and Naveen Reddy,the best fielder.
