US-supported INDUS project in 5 UP districts
Lucknow, June 10 (UNI) The US supported, INDUS Child Labour Project will be implemented in five districts of Uttar Pradesh, which have some of the highest rates of child labour and high proportion of minors working in hazardous sectors.
The UP districts are -- Allahabad, Moradabad, Kanpur, Ferozabad and Aligarh.
According to official sources here yesterday, the project has a budget of 40 million US dollars with equal contribution from the Indian and the US governments.
It is a technical cooperation project of the union ministries of labour and educaton in India and the US department of labour. The cooperation aims at the elimination of child labour.
About 20,000 children are targeted under this project, who will be directly enrolled in regular schools and support services.
They will be provided with transitional education and vocational training according to their age groups.
Besides, 500 parents of working children will be organised into self-help groups and later provided with skills for additional income generation.
