Truckers to join June 13 stir
Hyderabad, Jun 10 (UNI) The twin-cities Local Lorry Operators Association today decided to take part in the one-day strike on June 13 in protest against fuel price hike.
Dismissing as ''too meagre'' the reduction in petrol and diesel rates by 40 paise and 22 paise respectively by the State Government, Association General Secretary K Rajeswar Rao, in a statement here, said the transport industry was on the verge of collapse due to alleged wrong policies of the Government, including frequent hike in the prices of petroleum products.
A major part of the cost of petrol and diesel accounted for excise duty and sales tax, he opined, demanding uniform prices for petroleum products in the entire country on par with Delhi.
Meanwhile, the Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee convenor Mohd Amanullah Khan, in a statement, termed as 'unacceptable' the token slashing of sales tax by the State Government.
