TN Governor dedicates 100 houses

Madurai, Jun 10 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today dedicated 100 Houses, built for the members of Mahasemam, a Self-help Group by the US- based Habitat for Humanity International (HHI), in collaboration with the SHG federation and Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research centre (MMHRC) at Kathapatti village near here.

The Governor also laid the foundation stone for building 1000 houses, being built by the same group, as part of their programme to credicate the problem of housing in the country.

Speaking on the occation, the Governor said Tamil Nadu was emerging as a model state in public health for the rest of the country, and the health care in the State was renowned world wide.

He said the first lady of Guyana, who visited him yesterday, had said 16 patients had come from that country for treatment of heart ailment in a hospital at Chennai.

Several medical colleges, Medical Education and research institutes and health care centres contributed to the success of the health care industry in the State, he said.

The cost of health care had come down considerably and the Quality and commitment of our Doctors had gained recognition worldwide, the Governor said.

Mr Rick Hathaway, Regional Programme Manager- Asia Pacific, HHI, in his keyneote address, said his organisation planned to provide 50000 houses in India.
