Three HNLC arrested
Shillong, June 10 (UNI) The BSF have handed over three arrested members of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) to the Meghalaya police.
The three were arrested on June 6 from Tripura's Dharmanagar near the Indo-Bangla border while they were trying to sneak into India from Bangladesh.
Additional Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills District H Kharkrang told UNI here today that the BSF handed over the ultras last evening.
During interrogation, the HNLC cadres said they had fled their camp in Chittagong Hills Tract in Bangladesh as ill-treatment was meted out to them by their top leaders.
According to the arrested HNLC ultras more cadres from the outfit, who are still in Bangladesh, have expressed their willingness to return to the mainstream.
''Most of the HNLC have become disillusioned with the outfit due to fund constraints'', Mr Kharkrang said.
However, Mr Kharkrang said the state police have registered a case against them as they were caught by the BSF while crossing the Indo-Bangla border.
Meanwhile, more than 80 HNLC cadres, including some of the top HNLC cadres, have surrendred before the government.
