Residents find currency notes in garbage, take them home

Nagpur, June 10 (UNI) High drama prevailed in the city this morning when some residents of Untakhana slum locality allegedly found currenty notes wrapped in two gunny bags, and took them home.

Police said at about 0700 hrs, a passer-by noticed currency notes in two bundles of gunny bags lying in a garbage near a residential complex building at Untakhana.

The news of currenty notes lying in open spread fast in the area and some men and women took the notes and disappeared from the scene.

Police later received an anonymous call that residents were running with currency notes which were lying in the garbage in gunny bags. Police rushed to the site and seized some of the notes lying abandoned in gunny bags.

Meanwhile, the residents and passers-by who fled with the bundles of notes were being traced, police said and added they suspect that about Rs one lakh cash was thrown away by someone for fear of income tax raids or could have been stolen from somewhere.

Police said they have recovered currency worth Rs 30,000 in the denomination of 1,000 from the site. Further investigations were on.
