Recruitment scam: Varsity registrar suspended

Kolhapur, June 10 (UNI) The registrar and a peon of the Shivaji university here have been suspended for their alleged involvement in the varsity's new staff recruitment scam.

Sources today said action has been taken against Registrar Dr Sambhaji Desai and his peon A B More, as they were found guilty of accepting bribe while conducting recruitment in the university.

Another peon - S S Subhedar has already been suspended in connection with the scam.

The university had conducted recruitment for various posts two month back and Dr Desai was a member of the recruitment committee.

A candidate who applied for the job of a plumber was allegedly asked to pay Rs 1.4 lakh by a senior official for his appointment.

Later, the matter came to the notice of university Vice Chancellor Dr Manikrao Salunkhe, who caught Subhedar red-handed while accepting the money and immediately suspended him, sources said.

Investigations further revealed the alleged involvement of Dr Desai and his peon, sources added.
