Mumbai, June 10 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), one of the main coalition partner in Maharashtra government, today celebrated its seventh foundation day.

It is for the first time that the party has decided to celebrate the event at taluka and district level as well, instead of gathering at one particular place. The functions will be held for a week and not restricted to a single day.

On the occasion, party's Maharashtra unit president Arun Gujarathi said ever since the party broke away from the Congress seven years ago to chart out a separate course for itself, it has grown by leaps and bounds to emerge stronger.

''Our party's committment is to the poor and downtrodden sections of the society and support to reservations is unflinching,'' he added.

NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, who is out of the country, is expected to return to Delhi tonight.

Meanwhile, the function to mark the occasion was held at the State NCP office here and attended by Maharashtra Minister of State for Rural Development Suryakanta Patil, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and others.
