Kuwait Emir arrives in Dhaka

Dhaka, June 10 (UNI) Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah arrived here today to a red-carpet welcome on a state visit to Bangladesh.

The Emir was here on the first leg of his four-nation tour that will also take him to Thailand, India and Pakistan.

Acting President Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia greeted the Emir at VVIP tarmac of Zia International Airport when he arrived by a special flight at 1800 hrs (local time).

Sheikh Al-Sabah was given a 21-gun salute as he alighted from the aircraft. He was also given a guard of honour by a contingent drawn from the three services.

During his less than 24-hour visit to the country, the Emir will hold talks with Prime Minister Khaleda Zia tomorrow various bilateral issues including, investement in energy sector and manpower recruitment from Bangladesh.

He will also meet acting President Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar and attend an official lunch at Bangabhaban tomorrow. The Emir is scheduled to leave for Bangkok at 1600 hrs the same day.
