KSRTC hikes bus fares by 8 per cent

Bangalore, June 10 (UNI) The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has hiked bus fares by eight per cent, with effect from midnight today.

However, there was no change in the minimum fare of Rs two for the first substage of three km and luggage charges, according to a KSRTC release here.

The hike was necessiated as the KSRTC had to bear additional expenditure of Rs 69.26 crore per annum following the hike in diesel price twice in the last ten months, besides rise in cost of operations by Rs 10.15 crore per annum due to revision of Dearness Allowance by seven per cent in two instalments in July 2005 and January 2006, the release added.

The increase was being effected by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation.
