M Karunanidhi to inaugurate fuel pipeline

Chennai, Jun 10 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would inaugurate the Indian Oil Corporation's Chennai-Tiruchy-Madurai fuel pipeline here on June 26.

Announcing this at a press conference here, Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said the Chief Minister accepted his request and agreed to inaugurate the Rs 540 crore project at a function to be held at Manali.

Mr Deora said he had come down to the city to explain the people the rationale behind the hike in prices of petrol and diesel and meet Mr Karunanidhi and request him to inaugurate the project.

The 504-km long petro-product pipeline project had been completed with an estimated cost of Rs 540 crore. Except white petrol, the pipeline would ensure fuel for various industrial units in TN and supply products to various consumption centres, sources in Indian Oil Corporation said.
